UK leads the way in vehicle recalls, Leaselink head tells fleet safety conference

By / 11 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

Speaking on the topic of vehicle safety recalls, Pilkington told delegates from the Arab League of Nations, including representatives from Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates, that in terms of legislation and processes the UK led the way.

He also spoke about progress made with the ReCare system, developed by Ebbon-Dacs for the BVRLA in the UK and now available free of charge to its members, including leasing, daily rental and fleet management companies.

‘Even before the latest developments in the UK such as ReCare, other countries have some way to go to catch up, and they do not have the strong policies on safety recalls or the processes to have vehicles rectified that we do in the UK,’ he said.

The conference was organised as part of the UN-backed “Decade for Road Safety” covering the period 2010-2020 and was intended to promote the issue of road safety and safer driving on a global level.

Pilkington told delegates that the ReCare system, which Ebbon-Dacs has developed over the last 12 months, was intended to be a major aid to road safety and that growing numbers of fleet operators and manufacturers were signing up to it.

And, as a result of negotiations currently ongoing with a number of parties from both the demand and supply side of the fleet industry, many more expected to do so in the very near future.

‘We have made great strides in the areas of road safety in the UK, but we believe that the ReCare system has the potential to deliver huge duty of care and road safety benefits to the UK fleet management sector,’ he said.
