Uber CEO to meet with TfL boss over licence ban

Uber’s newly appointed CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is to meet with Mike Brown, commissioner of transport for London, next week to enter talks over the future of its licence in the capital.

Uber said it wants to “work with London to make things right”.

The meeting comes a week after Transport for London announced that it is to strip Uber of its licence to operate in the capital after concluding that Uber London Limited “is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator licence”.

In a statement at the time, Uber said it intends to immediately challenge the decision in the courts and said the ban would show the world that “far from being open, London is closed to innovative companies who bring choice to consumers”.

However, since then Dara Khosrowshahi has tweeted his “commitment that @Uber will work with #London to make things right and keep this great global city moving safely”.

In a letter published in the tweet, Khosrowshahi said: “While Uber has revolutionised the way people move in cities around the world, it’s equally true that we’ve got things wrong along the way. On behalf of everyone at Uber globally, I apologise for the mistakes we’ve made.”

Commenting on next week’s meeting, an Uber spokesperson said: “Our new CEO is looking forward to meeting with the Commissioner next week. As he said on Monday, we want to work with London to make things right.”For more of the latest industry news, click here.
