Tritium to supply 350kW chargers for new Ionity charging sites

The manufacturer-backed Ionity ultra-fast charging network is to expand further with the help of 350kW chargers from Tritium.

The new agreement, along with the deal announced in 2018, will see Tritium supply high power chargers for 220 of the planned 400 Ionity sites across Europe

The Australian fast-charging specialist has signed a deal with Ionity to supply its Veefil-PK 350kW chargers for 120 new Ionity charging sites across Europe. The deal will see an average of four to six chargers installed per site across 23 countries in Europe, giving Ionity what’s claimed to be the largest and fastest DC high power charging network in the world.

Each charger will be equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) and will be capable of adding around 350km or 220 miles of range in 10 minutes of charging; currently drivers pay an €8 session fee for using an Ionity station.

“Ionity has a vision for electric vehicle charging which mirrors ours; it’s not just about the speed of the charge but the experience for customers,” said David Finn, CEO and co-founder, Tritium. “These chargers will soon be ubiquitous along the highways of Europe and ensure that the increasing number of EV owners across the continent will be able to drive whenever and wherever they want.

“The sheer number of these chargers will all but eliminate range anxiety while enabling energy freedom and announces to the world that EVs are here to stay.”

The latest deal builds on last year’s agreement for Tritium to supply its Veefil-PKs for 100 sites and means that Tritium is now the largest supplier to the Ionity network.
