Toyota Corolla pricing and specs announced

Toyota has revealed pricing and specifications for the new Corolla hatchback and Touring Sports estate as pre-orders open.

Toyota Corolla hatchback and Touring Sports

Now in their 12th generation, the new models – which will be joined by the saloon after a near 15-year break in the UK – mark a return to the Corolla name still used elsewhere around the globe.

Starting first deliveries in March, the hatch and estate are, like the saloon, built on Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA) GA-C platform but the brand has said that all three models will be aimed at distinctly different types of buyers.

The hatchback and Touring Sport will be offered with a choice of a revised 1.8-litre hybrid and a new 178bhp 2.0-litre version plus a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, with no diesel alternatives for the first time. The hybrids get a CVT while the petrol features a six-speed manual.

The hatchback and Touring Sports also share the same specification line-up, covering Icon, Icon Tech, Design and Excel trim levels. And in both cases, the Icon and Icon Tech models are available with the 1.8-litre hybrid system and 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, while Design versions additionally offer the new 178bhp 2.0-litre hybrid system. Excel grade is all-hybrid, offered with both the 1.8 and 2.0-litre systems.

Entry-level kit includes 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, e-Call system, heated front seats with lumbar support, Toyota Touch 2 with eight-inch multimedia touchscreen, reversing camera, DAB, two-inch colour TFT multi-information display and dual-zone air con (1.8 hybrid models only).

All models also get the second generation of the Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance technology package. This includes a Pre-Collision System that can now detect pedestrians in the vehicle’s path during both day and night-time driving, and cyclists during daylight hours, while the Adaptive Cruise Control has improved deceleration and acceleration control and a new low-speed function for driving in stop-start traffic. Other systems include Lane Trace Assist, Road Sign Assist and Automatic High beam

Prices start from £21,300 for the hatchback in Icon trim and 1.2-litre turbo petrol, rising to £30,340 for the Touring Sports in Excel trim with the 2.0-litre hybrid CVT.
