Ecotricity revamps PAYG charging model
Ecotricity is launching a new pricing model for its Electric Highway rapid charging network in a move to charge more proportionally for energy taken.
Effective from 26 June, the new system separates the cost of energy from the cost of providing the service. Energy will be charged at 17p per unit – equivalent to the rate that people pay at home according to the company – with a £3 connection fee on top for non-Ecotricity customers.
Ecotricity said the new structure will give more flexibility and typically lower charging costs across all makes and models while customers will also benefit from an increase in the maximum length of charging sessions to 45 minutes.

Chris Patten, director of Orchard Computer Services, commented: “The previous Civics, supplied by Bristol Honda, proved to be extremely reliable for our field engineers who spend a great deal of their time on the road. We therefore had no hesitation in continuing that partnership by selecting the new Honda Civic as our company fleet vehicle.”
New 1.0-litre entry-level petrol for Micra
Nissan has completed the launch line-up for the new Micra with the addition of the 70bhp entry-level petrol engine.
Priced from £11,995, the three-cylinder naturally aspirated unit is linked to a five-speed manual transmission and offers official combined cycle fuel economy of 61.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 103g/km.
The engine joins the 0.9-litre 89bhp three-cylinder turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre 89bhp four-cylinder diesel, which went on sale earlier this year, and is expected to account for around 15% of overall UK sales.

Savings adds up for switch to supermarket forecourts
SMEs could save on average 3% on their total monthly fuel bill by switching to using supermarket forecourts for petrol or diesel.
The research by fuelGenie also finds that savings could be driven further by turning to fuel cards, which would cut the cost of lost working hours through employees submitting their mileage claims.
