Ecotricity revamps PAYG charging model

Ecotricity is launching a new pricing model for its Electric Highway rapid charging network in a move to charge more proportionally for energy taken.

Effective from 26 June, the new system separates the cost of energy from the cost of providing the service. Energy will be charged at 17p per unit – equivalent to the rate that people pay at home according to the company – with a £3 connection fee on top for non-Ecotricity customers.

Ecotricity said the new structure will give more flexibility and typically lower charging costs across all makes and models while customers will also benefit from an increase in the maximum length of charging sessions to 45 minutes.
