Thatcham fleet track day to include HGV emergency braking tests

The event is being held on Thursday 26 March at Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire to give fleet attendees hands-on experience of Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) and other advanced driver systems on car and vans.

The organisation has now also been the green light to demonstrate emergency braking on a Volvo HGV.

Thatcham added that whilst UK road casualties continue to decline, several crash types still occur, particularly those involving driver error or distraction which account for up to 90% of all crashes.

Autonomous Emergency Braking has a significant role to play in preventing these kinds of collisions and is seen by experts as the most important development in vehicle safety since the seatbelt, prevent and mitigating both injury and damage as well as directly benefitting insurance costs.

On the day, Thatcham will provide an overview of AEB and the wider range of Collision Avoidance technologies, exploring the significant benefits and potential cost savings, before participants get to try the systems in a safe, closed track environment.
