Tesco teams up with Carsite to sell ex-fleet cars

By / 13 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The supermarket giant has taken a significant minority stake in Carsite, which has now removed all the cars from its website and will be run as a Tesco brand.

Tesco Cars (www.tescocars.com) will sell up to 3,000 cars from fleet and lease fleets a week. All vehicles have undergone an independent RAC inspection and passed a HPI history check.

It is targeting used car buyers through the proposition of a convenient, easy and safe buying process that also offers money-saving discounts over retail prices and 2,000 Tesco Clubcard points for purchases.

Each vehicle will meet the Tesco Cars Standard, which means that it will have passed a 167-point independent RAC PLUS inspection and have a clear HPI history check. Cars can be reserved for a £99 handling fee and then delivered to the buyer’s address for a fixed transport charge of £149 or collected from a handover centre.

Buyers will be offered the option of using Tesco Bank to provide financing, motor insurance and breakdown cover.

After-sales servicing will also be offered through an arrangement with National Service Network (NSN), which will provide servicing and general vehicle repairs up to 30% cheaper than franchise dealers from a nationwide network of over 1,000 independent garages.

Sir Trevor Chinn, chairman of Tesco Cars, said: ‘When buying a used car, consumers want to know they can trust the information supplied, that they are getting value for money and a good product, all supported by good customer service. Importantly they also want to be able to take their time to make the right purchase for them.

'By marrying these principles, the success of the Tesco brand, and the transparent and unpressured online sales environment, we believe we will be delivering a positive new experience for today’s car buyer.’

Andrew Higginson, CEO of Retailing Services at Tesco, said: ‘Trust, value and service are at the heart of the Tesco Cars experience. The range of models – from electric cars designed for the city to family-sized MPVs – is immense. By supplying directly to customers, they can be sure they are getting the best value out there. And we will say "thank you" with 2,000 Clubcard points, which can be redeemed for goods, services and rewards in the usual way.’
