Streetcar sees sharp rise in membership in Brent
The company, which offers a range of BMW and VW vehicles on a pay-as-you-go basis, has announced that membership in Brent has doubled in a year to 2,000 members. The service now boasts 54 vehicles in 34 locations, with many more planned for the next six months.
Commenting on the company’s success, Brett Akker, Streetcar co-founder, said: 'I am thrilled with Streetcar’s success in the borough. It’s clear that a growing number of Brent residents want a car on their street for when they need it, but without the hassle of ownership. Joining Streetcar saves an average of £160 a month for our members, and many are opting to sell their own vehicles in favour of our service.'
Streetcar has become an increasingly popular alternative to traditional car ownership. Consumer membership has more than doubled in just over 12 months to over 75,000 and is expected to rise to 250,000 by 2012. The scheme now has over 1000 locations across seven cities; London, Brighton, Cambridge, Southampton, Guildford, Maidstone and Oxford, with the opening of a new location in Bristol due later this month.
