Speedy revamps choice list to major on electric and hybrid options

Construction equipment hire and services provider Speedy has overhauled its car choice list to primarily focus on ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs).

ULEVs now account for 90% of models available to employees on Speedy’s company car choice list

The business, which operates 450 company cars, said ULEVs now account for 90% of models available to employees, up from 20% last year. Cars on offer include electric, conventional hybrid and plug-in hybrid models from carmakers including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volvo, Audi and Tesla, supplied on contract hire under its partnership with Lex Autolease.

To support the transition, Speedy is rolling out electric vehicle charging points across its UK regional service centre network, benefiting customers too.

The increased focus on ULEVs is expected to bring future savings of up to 260 tonnes of CO2 annually from replacing diesel and petrol models, and forms part of the company’s long-term environmental, social and governance (ESG) programme, dubbed Energise.

Russell Down, chief executive at Speedy, said: “Converting our company car fleet to hybrid and fully electric is a vital step in building a more sustainable future for our business, the industry and for the communities we work in.

“This supports our position of being the partner of choice for customers that are increasingly focused on driving down carbon emissions across their supply chains.”

Down added that Speedy is making significant progress in reducing carbon across its business, including from acquiring a comprehensive range of low-emission hire equipment to providing greener travel options and reducing its overall mileage.

“The transition to a green company car fleet is just one of a number of initiatives that will have a significant impact on creating a more sustainable future for us all,” he outlined.
