Smart EV charger brings multiple benefits for fleet drivers

Dubbed “the UK’s smartest charger”, a new home charging solution is to launch early next year to bring multiple benefits for EV drivers.

The EO Mini Pro launches early 2019

Developed by UK domestic and fleet EV charging manufacturer EO Charging, the EO Mini Pro solution integrates JuiceNet smart charging software developed by eMotorWerks, a leading US supplier of smart grid solutions and part of Italian utility giant Enel.

As a result, the new EO Mini Pro delivers smart scheduling that can manage charging station demands so that charging takes place when energy is cheapest and in greatest supply, thereby avoiding grid overload; the firms say that the solution could bring the additional peak 3GW of power forecasted to run the estimated 10 million EVs by 2035 down to 0.5GW.

Scheduled charging times – which can be managed via the smartphone charging control and online dashboard – also bring cheaper charging costs for drivers and also enable them to utilise more green energy from the grid.

The ability to view historical charging data via the dashboard is also a benefit for fleet managers wanting to reimburse employees for charging at home.

Charlie Jardine, Founder & CEO at EO Charging, said: “We see electric vehicle chargers as more than ‘just a plug’, they’re the gateway to the future of mobility and the first piece of the puzzle in giving people energy autonomy. Electric vehicles represent the most disruptive technology the modern power network has ever witnessed, and we are working to ensure that EO is at the forefront of the e-mobility revolution where EV drivers and consumers are playing a more active role in their energy generation and usage.

The solution will be offered to EO charging residential customers in the UK from early 2019 and will then be rolled out in other European countries.

Jardine added: “Whilst we have seen success in the home charging market with the standard EO Mini, we’ve not had a true ‘smart-home offering’. Our partnership with eMotorWerks allows us to launch a cost-effective smart charger for the domestic EV driver that can integrate with solar, onsite storage and offer a plethora of energy management benefits. eMotorWerks is leading the industry in terms of smart grid charging and we’re excited to integrate the company’s JuiceNet platform into the EO Mini Pro for our customers in the UK and soon across Europe.”
