Skoda announces name for new SUV

The new model, which was previewed as the VisionS concept at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, is named after the Kodiak bear that lives on a remote island off the southern coast of Alaska, using spelling derived from the language of the indigenous people – the Alutiiq. The brand added that the name and spelling has been chosen to create “a distinctive name for a very distinctive new Skoda”.

Few details have been released at this stage but the seven-seater model will sit above the Yeti and is based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform with a length of 4,700mm and a width of 1,910mm.

Last month saw Skoda announce that the SUV is expected to appeal to company bosses, with Henry Williams, head of fleet for Skoda UK, adding: “We can’t say much more about its pricing or specification, but I can promise that it will give fleet customers exactly what they’re looking for: a great product at a great price.”
