SEAT unveils new Leon X-PERIENCE crossover

By / 10 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The new model joins the existing Leon line-up as the fifth model and features permanent four-wheel drive along with all-road suspension and kit, and a range of TDI and TSI engines. SEAT also promises its ‘typical features of exceptional quality and outstanding value for money’.

The X-PERIENCE (see video here) is built at SEAT’s plant in Martorell, Spain alongside the Leon ST estate on which it’s based and shares the latter model’s looks, dynamics and everyday functionality but with an extra 15mm extra ground clearance. To add to its offroad appeal, it gains protection moulding on the door sills and wheel arches along with new front and rear bumpers and 17-inch or optional 18-inch wheels. There’s also new materials inside and X-PERIENCE detailing.

In line with the ST, it offers boot space of 587 litres rising to 1,470 litres with the rear-seat backrests folded.

In the UK, the engine line-up comprises two TDI diesel engines, both with standard fit Start/Stop System and Energy Recover System. There’s also a 148bhp 2.0 TDI with 320Nm of torque and a six-speed manual transmission, with an official combined fuel consumption of 57.6mpg and CO2 of 126g/km.

The top engine is the 181bhp 2.0 TDI with 280lb.ft and six-speed DSG transmission. This delivers a time of 7.1 seconds for the 0 to 62mph sprint and a top speed of 139mph. This engine delivers a combined fuel consumption of 55.4mpg and 133g/km.

The X-PERIENCE also offers permanent all-wheel drive using a newly developed Haldex multi-plate clutch system with hydraulic actuation and electronic control.

Also on offer is the SEAT Drive Profile system, which enables the driver to vary the characteristics of the power steering, throttle control and the DSG transmission in three modes – eco, comfort and sport – plus an individual setting. A sound actuator is also incorporated close to the engine to provide a more refined engine tone.

Driver assistance systems include four-wheel EDS (electronic differential locks on both axles) and XDS (expanded electronic differential lock for better traction in corners) and the ESC electronic stability programme.

Optional high-tech features include full-LED headlamps, ACC adaptive cruise control with city emergency braking function, drowsiness detection and the Heading Control lane-keeping assistant.

Also available is the SEAT Easy Connect operating system, which enables control of all functions for entertainment and communication, as well as a wide range of vehicle functions, via a touch-sensitive screen in the cockpit.

The Leon X-PERIENCE is available to order from September and will reach UK showrooms later in 2014.
