The two brands held a 10.3% marketshare of the global market in 2010.

Renault sold 2.6 million units with Nissan selling 4.1 million and Lada 570,014.

'In 2010, the Renault-Nissan Alliance achieved unprecedented global sales and global market share. Our performance has been particularly encouraging in growth markets where Alliance brands have continued to gain market share,' said Carlos Ghosn, chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

'As the most enduring partnership in the automobile industry, the 12-year-old Alliance continues to strengthen its global presence with our expanding production capacity and competitive products,' added Mr Ghosn.

Earlier this month, Renault announced its own results, saying that all regions contributed to its record growth, with Europe up by 7.4%, Euromed by 13.1%, Eurasia by 32.5%, Asia-Africa by 24.5% and the Americas by 38.9%.

Renault has said that it has objectives for 2011: to step up its international expansion across all the brands and to launch its EV range in the second half of the year.
