Refreshed SEAT Ibiza to bring emissions from 88g/km

Revealed at the Barcelona Motor Show, the latest Ibiza, which continues to be offered in five-door, SC and ST estate bodystyles, sees little changes to exterior design, with SEAT saying that the model’s styling is a central purchasing reason for customers. Minor changes comprise new headlights with LED daytime running lights, new 16- and 17-inch alloy wheel designs and two new paint colours, Moonstone Silver and Chilli Red. The interior sees more changes and gains new materials, a newly designed instrument panel and increased personalisation options.

However key changes are made to the engine line-up, with a range of new petrol and TDI engines from the VW Group. The entry-level engine is a three-cylinder 74bhp 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol which is also available in 94bhp or 108bhp Eco TSI turbocharged versions with maximum torque of 118lb ft and 148lb.ft. The 94bhp version will also offer combined fuel economy of 68.9mpg with CO2 emissions of 94g/km.

The petrol line-up also includes the four cylinder 1.4 Eco TSI with active cylinder management (ACT), which brings an improved output of 148bhp and torque of 184lb.ft with combined fuel consumption of 58.9mpg.

Among the new three-cylinder diesel engines, the 1.4 TDI with 75PS brings fuel consumption of 83.1mpg with emissions of 88g/km. Each of the other TDI powertrains, with 89bhp or 104bhp, achieves 74.3mpg or more.

The 108hp TSI and 88bhp TDI are both available with the dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) and start/stop is available across the range.

Other changes include a speed-sensitive electric steering system and updated ride and handling, with springs, dampers and anti-roll bars being completely re-tuned. The Ibiza is also available with the optional SEAT Drive Profile, which offers adaptive damping with two modes – comfort or sports-orientated – with the settings also adjusting the power steering.

The new Ibiza also brings an increased focus on connectivity with the second generation of SEAT’s Easy Connect infotainment systems. The new MediaSystem plus and satellite navigation system can be enhanced with the MirrorLink function and SEAT has also developed its own app for MirrorLink, called SEAT DriveApp.

New safety systems
include the Tiredness Recognition System and Multi-Collision Brake.

The new model is in UK showrooms from autumn 2015.
