Refreshed Fiat 500 gains new engines & tech

On sale in September priced from £10,890, the new model is again available in two body styles (hatchback and convertible) and three trim levels: Pop, Pop Star and Lounge.

The new car retains its compact dimensions – 3,570mm long, 1,630mm wide and 1,490mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,300mm.

The carmaker says that the new model brings 1,800 detail changes, led by new front headlights with LED daytime running lights and the new rear light clusters, plus updated colour options, a revamped dashboard, new steering wheel and improved materials.

The engine line-up of the New FIAT 500 at launch includes a 0.9-litre TwinAir engine (84bhp or 104bhp) and a 1.2-litre 68bhp unit. The two-cylinder engines bring 90g/km for the 85hp engine and 99g/km for the 105hp unit – while a new ‘Eco’ configurations of the 1.2 litre 68bhp (available after the launch) will reduce emissions to 99g/km (UK availability TBC).

Standard kit includes LED daytime running lights, seven airbags and a Uconnect infotainment system that replaces the previous audio set-up and brings six speakers, AUX-IN/USB ports and steering wheel remote controls.

The Pop Star version in the UK adds air conditioning, body-colour mirror caps with defrosting function and 15-inch alloy wheels, while the Lounge version brings a panoramic glass sunroof, rear parking sensors, a chrome front grille, front fog lights, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and a Uconnect 5-inch LIVE touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration and built-in apps.

New alloy wheel designs are also introduced in New FIAT 500, offered in 15- and 16-inch sizes and available in a variety of finishes. Colour options now cover 13 hues (seven pastel, one solid and five metallic) including two new colours: Glam Coral and Avantgarde Bordeaux. Two black-yellow and black-red variants are also available as part of the FIAT 500 'Second Skin' initiative.

More details on the Fiat 500 will be made available closer to the vehicle’s launch.
