Priced from £23,045, the 2018 models introduce upgrades to the cabin along with updated styling and technologies. They also mark the UK debut of Mazda’s cylinder deactivation Skyactiv-G 2.5-litre petrol engine and a higher-power version of the 2.2-litre diesel.

Already seen in the CX-9 SUV and the CX-5 in certain global markets, the 191bhp 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G direct-injection four-cylinder engine switches from four cylinders to two between 25 and 50mph to improve fuel efficiency without impacting performance.

The new engine is paired with Mazda’s Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic gearbox in both Saloon and Tourer models.

In addition, Mazda has updated the 2.0-litre Skyactiv-G with new intake ports, new pistons and revised fuel injection and cooling while the higher-powered 2.2-litre Skyactiv-D diesel now offers 182bhp, up from 173bhp.

The Mazda6 also benefits from suspension fine tuning and component upgrades to improve ride comfort, bringing smoother driving and improved ride quality while engineering upgrades also bring steering improvements.  In addition, the steering knuckles have been lowered for more neutral steering

In total, 24 models will be offered across the two bodystyles with four trim levels on offer – SE-L Nav+, SE-L LUX Nav+, Sport Nav+ and GT Sport Nav+ – with the range-topping trim marked out as the only one to get the new 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G.

Standard active safety equipment also sees an upgrade and all models now feature a wide range of advanced i-Activesense technology including Blind Spot Monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist and Advanced Smart City Break Support.

Peter Allibon, sales director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “The new Mazda6 is another example of Mazda’s continued drive to deliver stylish, great to drive, high-quality cars that offer a unique form of Japanese inspired style and elegance. With more technology and equipment than ever before, plus upgrades to engines and refinement I’m sure the Mazda6 will be more popular than ever with both fleet and retail customers.”
