Pricing and specification announced for new Mégane

Set to start deliveries from July, the new model will offer six trim levels and four engines – two dCi and two TCe engines – with manual & EDC transmissions. Hybrid Assist and dCi 165 versions will follow in 2017 while the Sport Tourer model is due later this year.

Trim levels use the familiar Renault structure and cover Expression+, Dynamique Nav, Dynamique S Nav, Signature Nav, GT-Line Nav and GT Nav.

Standard features include adjustable steering column, height-adjustable driver and passenger seat, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic electronic parking brake, 7-inch TFT instrument panel with digital speedometer, all-round electric windows, cruise control, speed limiter, Hill Start Assist and leather steering wheel.

Safety systems fitted to all models cover adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking and lane departure warning while the R-Link 2 system is fitted to all models above Expression+.

Diesel engines on offer from launch comprise a 1.5-litre dCi 110 unit – offering official CO2 emissions from 96g/km in manual version and combined fuel economy of 76.4mpg – plus a 1.6-litre dCi 130 engine. There’s also two Energy TCe turbocharged petrol options in 128bhp 1.2-litre and 202bhp 1.6-litre variants.

An Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) six-speed automatic gearbox is available with the dCi 110 and TCe 130 engines. The EDC automatic gearbox is standard with the TCe 202bhp engine for the GT Nav.

In 2017, two further engine options will be available, covering a Hybrid Assist diesel-electric unit along with a dCi 165 1.6-litre twin-turbo unit for the GT Nav trim.

As previously announced, the new model features the brand’s latest design language and is also 25mm lower and wider, with a wheelbase 28mm longer and a shorter overhang. The Megane is built at the Palencia plant in Spain alongside Kadjar and uses the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s new Common Module Family (CMF) architecture, already seen on the Renault Espace and Kadjar.

Prices for the new Mégane start at £16,600 for the Expression+ TCe 130 and rise to £25,500 for the GT Nav 205 Auto EDC.
