Prices and specs revealed for facelifted Volvo XC90

Volvo has launched a refreshed XC90 that sees the UK debut of a new mild hybrid diesel as well as introducing styling changes and an extended plug-in hybrid range.

The updated Volvo XC90

On sale now, the facelifted model is the first to offer Volvo’s new ‘B5’ mild hybrid diesel, which combines the 235hp 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 48-volt battery, a KERS kinetic energy recovery system and an integrated starter generator. The system improves fuel economy – by up to 15% in real-world driving – and produces lower NOx emissions than the outgoing D5 XC90 it replaces.

The 2020 model year XC90 also features an upgraded battery for the 390hp T8 Twin Engine petrol-electric plug-in hybrid, with capacity increased from 10.4 to 11.8 kilowatt hours. This increases the car’s electric-only driving range from up to 21.7 to a maximum of 28.6 miles; a 32% increase.

The range also continues to offer the 250hp T5 and 310hp T6 petrols, with all powertrains featuring eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The revised model also features styling changes to the front grille, lower bumper and air intakes, plus an all-black exterior trim for dynamic R-Design variants. It also brings new alloy wheel designs and exterior colour choices

Trim levels cover Momentum, R-Design and Inscription versions – each also available in more highly specified ‘Pro’ form. Updated equipment sees the XC90 now get two USB ports in the cabin as standard. Momentum-grade models add power adjustment for the front passenger seat and the T8 Twin Engine versions are now supplied with a purpose-designed bag to store the recharging cable. Standard kit across the range includes the Sensus nine-inch multimedia touchscreen with voice-activated control, navigation system and access to the Volvo On Call connected services platform, plus the City Safety system, power-operated tailgate, LED headlights, a rear parking camera and keyless entry and start. As with all other new Volvos, the XC90 also benefits from a data SIM card, which provides access to up to 100GB of data for 12 months.

The updated XC90 range is on sale now, priced from £52,235 for the T5 Momentum.
