Volkswagen has revealed pricing and specifications for its new Arteon sports saloon as order books open.

Priced from £34,305 and starting deliveries from next month, the new flagship model – which sits above the Passat – will initially offer three turbo charged direct injection engines: a 276bhp 2.0 TSI petrol and a 2.0 TDI engines with either 148bhp or 237bhp and seven-speed DSG boxes.

These will be joined later by the 148bhp 2.0 TDI with six-speed manual box as well as Volkswagen’s newly designed 148bhp 1.5 TSI petrol with cylinder deactivation technology and a 187bhp 2.0 TSI petrol.

All models are front-wheel drive apart from the 276bhp 2.0 TSI and 237bhp 2.0 TDI engines, which come with all-wheel drive as standard.

Two trim levels will be offered – the luxury-orientated ‘Elegance’ or more sporty ‘R-Line’ –  both bringing a different focus rather than a tiered approach. Standard kit includes Discover Navigation system with eight-inch colour touchscreen, 12.3-inch Active Info Display, 18-inch alloys, leather upholstery, 3Zone climate control, Bluetooth audio and telephone connectivity, and Volkswagen Media Control, which enables passengers to control the infotainment system via a compatible smartphone or tablet device.

Standard driver assistance features include new-generation Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with predictive cruise control, City Emergency Braking, Front Assist, Speed Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Assist and Driver Alert fatigue warning system.

Deliveries of the new Arteon start from September.
