Renault’s X-Trail-rivalling Koleos large SUV will be priced from £27,500 with emissions starting from 128g/km when it goes on sale this summer.

Available for exclusive fleet drives at next week’s Fleet Show, the all-new model marks the brand’s returns to the large car segment and sits above Captur and Kadjar in the brand’s crossover line-up.

Based on the same ‘CMF’ C/D platform platform as the X-Trail from Alliance partner Nissan, Koleos is marginally longer and with slightly reduced boot space (458 and 1,690 litres compared to 550 and 1,982 for the Nissan) but is said to bring improved interior comfort with rear passenger knee room amongst best-in-class. It also offers One-Touch easy folding rear seats via a button in the boot while the top trim comes with a Powered Automatic Tailgate.

Priced higher than X-Trail, which starts from £22,855 OTR, Koleos puts the focus on a high level of standard specification and offers two trim levels: Dynamique S Nav and Signature Nav. Entry-level kit includes opening panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, hands-free keycard, automatic lights and wipers, seven-inch touchscreen R-LINK2 multimedia system with sat nav plus TomTom LIVE traffic updates, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone replication,  and part-black leather upholstery with extra tinted rear windows and 18-inch alloys.

Signature Nav adds to this with 19-inch two-tone alloys and full LED headlights, 8.7-inch portrait touchscreen and the automatic opening boot.

Engine line-up covers two diesel engines: a 1.6-litre dCi 130 with manual gearbox and two-wheel drive and a four-wheel drive 2.0-litre dCi 175 4WD available in both manual and Auto X-Tronic gearbox.

CO2 emissions are 128g/km for the dCi 130 with fuel economy of up to 57.6mpg on the official combined cycle while the dCi 175 delivers 148g/km and up to 50.4mpg official combined for the manual with 156g/km and 47.9mpg for the Auto X-Tronic.
