Vauxhall’s updated Insignia is now on sale, bringing a full line-up of RDE2-compliant engines and claimed best-in-class CO2 and fuel economy.

Priced from £23,120 OTR and due in showrooms this summer, the facelifted model offers a range of two petrol engines and three diesels – which use up to 18% less fuel than before and are also RDE2-compliant, as with the brand’s full range. This exempts them from the 4% diesel surcharge as well as qualifying them for lower Vehicle Excise Duty.

The range includes a three-cylinder 122hp 1.5-litre diesel with WLTP-rated CO2 emissions of 120g/km, along with a 174hp 2.0-litre diesel that arrives later this year with emissions of 123g/km with six-speed manual and 132g/km with an eight-speed auto transmission.

Petrol engines include a three-cylinder 1.4 turbo, plus two 2.0-litre petrol engines with 200hp and 230hp; the first Vauxhall engines with cylinder deactivation. Offered with a nine-speed auto, the lower-powered 2.0-litre emits 171g/km, with a figure of 193g/km for the 230hp unit, used solely in the top-of-the-range GSi.

Trim levels cover SE Nav, SRi Nav, SRi VX-Line Nav, Ultimate Nav as well as the top-level GSi.

Entry-level equipment includes the multimedia Navi infotainment system featuring a 7-inch colour touchscreen, sat nav, AM/FM/DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It also comes with comfort front seats, dual-zone electronic climate control, multi-function trip computer, cruise control with intelligent speed limiter, front and rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloys. Drivers can also specify the optional E-Call system, which can be used to summon help and automatically sends an emergency call if the seatbelt tensioners or airbags are deployed.

The updated model also brings a range of driver assistance technologies. Standard equipment on the entry-level SE Nav includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision alert, following distance indicator and lane departure warning with lane assist.

Also on offer is a new rear-view camera with an optional rear cross traffic alert, as well as forward collision with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane keep assist, side blind spot alert, adaptive cruise control with emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, advanced park assist and head-up display.

Revised IntelliLux LED lighting technology is also available, using 84 LED bulbs in each headlight, instead of the previous 16, to project more light for safer conditions driving at night. It can also adjust between dipped and main beam in milliseconds, and adapts light functions according to the driving situation and surroundings.
