Porsche announces 91mpg Panamera plug-in hybrid

By / 8 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The Panamera S E-Hybrid will be shown at the Auto China show in Shanghai on 21st April, alongside the rest of the updated range, and replaces the hybrid version in the outgoing car. Using a combination of 3.0-litre petrol V6 engine and 94bhp electric motor, it offers a power output of 412bhp while boosting fuel consumption from 39.8mpg to 91.1mpg compared to its predecessor.

Its new lithium-ion battery can be charged in 2.5 hours using the Porsche Universal Charger, four hours from a conventional Continental European power socket, and slightly longer from a UK outlet. This offers an electric range of 22 miles under NEDC test conditions, though Porsche says the system will typically offer between 11 and 22 miles in normal driving, or more if conditions are ideal.

The system can use the electric motor to boost the power output of the petrol engine, allowing a 5.5-second sprint to 62mph, and to "coast" with the engine decoupled at high speeds. Its electric range is available at up to 84mph, and owners will be able to check charging times and set climate control functions remotely via a smartphone app.

UK pricing has not been announced yet, but the Panamera S E-Hybrid is positioned slightly higher than the Panamera 4S in Germany, and its 71g/km CO2 emissions will offer lower BiK costs for company car drivers, even relative to the Panamera Diesel.
