Peugeot boosts emerging market sales
The carmaker reported total sales of 1.1 million vehicles for the first six months of the year, of which 44% were sold outside Europe.
Hot spots include Russia and the Ukraine, with volumes up 50% and a 0.2 point rise in market share, in Latin America with volumes up 19% and a 0.2 point rise in market share and, finally, in Asia with volumes up 17% and stable market share.
In the brand’s four markets in Latin America, Peugeot saw a significant rise in volumes with 89,605 vehicles sold and a market share of 3.4%.
The carmaker also reported 17% growth in China compared to 9% for the market as a whole, with almost 81,000 vehicles sold, on the back of the success of the 408’s launch last year.
In contrast, sales volumes were down 4% in Europe.
Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Peugeot highlighted forthcoming launches, including the 508 in China, the global launch of the 3008 HYbrid4 and the unveiling this autumn at Frankfurt of the 508 RXH diesel hybrid, which goes on sale in 2012.
