Peugeot 508 plug-in hybrid to offer 217mpg and 29g/km CO2

Peugeot has swiftly followed up news of its 3008 plug-in hybrid with the announcement that its 508 and 508 SW models are also getting PHEV power.

Available to order later this year, the new 508 Hybrid and 508 SW Hybrid combine a 180hp 1.6L PureTech petrol engine with a 110hp electric motor on the front axle, giving a total 225hp. This results in WLTP-tested values of 217mpg and 29g/km CO2 for the 508 Hybrid and 217mpg and 30g/km CO2 for the 508 SW Hybrid; putting them in the 10% BiK bracket for 2020/21 when registered after 6 April 2020.

Part of Peugeot’s plans to offer electrified variants across its entire model line-up by 2023, both models use an 11.8kWh battery, giving an electric-only range of 33 miles. A full charge takes less than two hours via a 7kW chargepoint while the battery pack doesn’t impinge on boot space; boot space remains at 487 litres for the Hybrid saloon while the 508 SW Hybrid gets the same 530 litres with the rear seats up as the petrol and diesel variants.

Each model will be available with four driving modes: zero-emission, Sport (which combines both engine and motor output), Hybrid (which switches between the two for efficiency) and Comfort, which combines Hybrid mode.

The new models will be available in three trim options – Allure, GT Line and GT – and feature equipment including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Positioning Assist and Peugeot’s Night Vision technology, which uses infrared cameras to highlight pedestrians and animals up to 200m, beyond the scope of the headlights.
