New Škoda Octavia vRS to arrive as petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid

Škoda has revealed further details of the fourth-generation Octavia vRS, which arrives this autumn and will offer a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power.

The fourth-gen Octavia vRS arrives this autumn with a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power

The vRS follows in the footsteps of the standard Octavia estate and hatchback, which were due to be revealed at this spring’s Geneva Motor Show and went on sale last month with three engine options and three trim levels.

The new vRS headlines the range and, as announced in the digital reveal that replaced the Geneva premiere, is being offered as a vRS plug-in hybrid – a first for the brand – alongside petrol and diesel models.

The Octavia vRS iV PHEV has a power output of 245hp and comes with a six-speed DSG. The petrol variant offers the same 245hp and features a 2.0 TSI petrol engine and a manual six-speed gearbox or seven-speed DSG. The 2.0 TDI diesel delivers 200hp, comes as standard with a seven-speed DSG and is the only model in the vRS range to be available with all-wheel drive on request. All DSG models get shift paddles on the steering wheel.

Design brings trademark vRS features, including black exterior accents and sporty interior, bespoke LED fog lights, rear and roof spoiler and 18-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers; 19-inch alloys are an option. Standard equipment also includes full LED Matrix headlights, which are making their Octavia debut.

The interior features a redesigned multifunction leather sports steering wheel, front sports seats with integrated headrests or optional ergonomic seats finished in Alcantara and featuring seat-depth adjustment and a massage function.

All three vRS models are fitted with the Virtual Cockpit instrument panel as standard, which offers an additional Sport layout. They also come with Driving Mode Select as standard, featuring a new vRS mode. The full range of driver assistance systems from the fourth-gen Octavia are available too and include the new Collision Avoidance Assist, Turn Assist and Exit Warning as well as Local Traffic Warning.

The progressive steering system comes as standard and the vRS-typical sports suspension is lowered by 15mm for the 2.0 TSI and the 2.0 TDI. Dynamic Chassis Control is available as an option.

Prices and full UK specification details are due prior to the arrival of the vRS range in the autumn.
