Launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the new ST estate, the Leon Ecomotive is available in three body styles (three-door SC, five-door and ST) with prices starting from £19,360 OTR.

The Ecomotive’s CO2 emissions figure is 12g/km lower than the outgoing model despite being more powerful. This is accomplished most notably via a 90 kg weight reduction and a 10% improvement in aerodynamic efficiency.

In addition, the use of a six-speed manual gearbox designed for efficiency and paired up with a 1.6-litre TDI diesel helps reduce emissions below the 99g/km of the standard Leon 1.6 TDI, which is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Ecomotive is also distinguished from the standard Leon 1.6 TDI thanks to its higher engine output, up from 104bhp to 109bhp, and the use of low rolling resistance tyres. To improve aerodynamic performance there's a body package comprising rear and side spoilers, and the suspension is lowered by 15mm, while the Ecomotive also wears a unique radiator grille.

As with every other model in the Leon range, the Leon Ecomotive comes with an Energy Recovery System and a Start/Stop System.

Based on the SE trim level, the Ecomotive also includes 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights with cornering function, cruise control, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, air conditioning, electric windows all around (aside from SC versions), Bluetooth hands-free phone system and SEAT Easy Connect multimedia system.

Until the end of the year, the Leon Ecomotive also receives a free Technology Pack, providing full-LED headlights, satellite navigation and a DAB radio.

First deliveries of the Leon Ecomotive begin January 2014, priced at £19,360 for the SC, £19,660 for the five-door and £20,485 for the ST.
