According to Network Rail, railways suffer almost 2,000 bridge strikes every year

Figures from Network Rail indicate that railways suffer almost 2,000 bridge strikes every year, costing the taxpayer some £23m, and according to Jonathan Mosley, E-Training World’s sales and marketing director, driver error is usually the cause.

The new e-module highlights to dangers the costs and dangers caused by bridge strikes and looks to minimise the chances of a driver ever striking a bridge again by focusing on the wide range of factors that contribute.

“It includes advice when driving towards arched bridges, being sure about your vehicle height, route planning, the meaning of warning signs at low bridges, driver attitude in general, and the fines, prosecutions and potential costs to both the driver and the company of a vehicle hitting a bridge,” explained Mosley.
