Details are sparse, but the newcomer could make use of Jaguar Land Rover’s four‐cylinder diesel engine, also recently introduced in the Range Rover Sport, as well as updated six‐cylinder units from the outgoing car.

It arrives as calendar year‐to‐date sales for Land Rover total 47,441 units in the UK, up 21.7% on the previous year.

In a statement, Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s chief design officer, said: “New Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV.”

The wraps come off the full model on 28 September at Paris.
