New eco-driving tool could save millions, says GE Capital
Called Clear Drive, the product promotes safer, cleaner and cost-effective driving through a comprehensive series of eco-driving web-based tutorials and e-alerts. The tool also allows fleet directors to view the fuel consumption of their entire fleet, by business sector, geographical region, country or individual vehicle.
The programme will be offered to GE Capital's fleet customers in a number of European markets and, according to the firm, could help them to:
• Save more than €25 million in fuel costs each year
• Reduce fuel consumption by 21 million litres
• Slash 55,531 tonnes of CO2 emissions
'Fuel costs represent 20% of the total cost of ownership of a company car and car usage represents 25% of all global carbon emissions. As a result the need for fleet managers to control and monitor fuel usage has never been greater,' said Arthur Mathysen-Gerst, managing director of pan-European fleet for GE Capital.
The company adds that there are wider benefits of eco-driving.
Mr Mathysen-Gerst said: 'Improving driving behaviour increases safety, reduces drivers' stress levels and lowers running costs and insurance premiums for drivers personally as well as the businesses they work for. Not only that, these actions can have a dramatic impact on the environment too.'
