Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, the third-generation TT is based on the Volkswagen Group’s new MQB modular setup, which sheds weight from all variants and helps fuel economy across the range.

Due to start first deliveries in December, the new model brings evolutionary styling updates, including a wider grille, R8-style bonnet-mounted badging and LED headlights.

Launch engines comprise a 227bhp 2.0 TFSI offered with front-wheel-drive and quattro all-wheel drive and an 181bhp “ultra” 2.0 TDI with front-wheel drive only. The latter will offer 67.3mpg capability with CO2 output of just 110g/km, yet can also reach 62mph in 7.1 seconds and top out at 150mph.

A 306bhp TTS version follows in October, with first deliveries scheduled for March 2015.

Two specification levels – Sport and S line – will initially be offered in the UK. Both include the Audi virtual cockpit, which is based around a 12.3-inch, high resolution LCD display that completely fills the driver’s instrument binnacle and replaces the traditional analogue dials.

Other standard kit includes MMI touch, xenon or LED headlights, Audi Music Interface, Audi drive select, Alcantara/leather sports seats and keyless go.

S line versions add unique bumpers, larger, 19-inch wheels, all-weather LED lights and a no-cost option to switch to 10mm lower suspension.

There’s also a Technology Package, which includes hard disk-based navigation mapping that can completely fill the 12.3-inch TFT monitor, and also beams the internet to the car via Audi connect.

Prices start at £29,770 for the 2.0 TFSI ultra Sport and rise to £35,335 for the 2.0 TFSI quattro S line.
