Moving traffic penalties rise 30% in London

A total of 1,439,942 penalty charge notices (PCNs) were issued by London councils in 2017-18 for moving traffic contraventions – up 30% on the previous year.

The research by private number plates company Click4reg.co.uk found there was the equivalent of 3,945 moving traffic PCNs per day in the capital.

City of London council issued the highest number of moving traffic PCNs in London with a total of 192,841 – the equivalent of 528 fines each day and up 1663%.

Contrastingly, Kingston saw the largest fall in year-on-year moving traffic PCNs, at 22%. The council issued 65,634 fines in 2017-18 compared to 84,072 during 2016-17.

Bexley council handed out the lowest number of moving traffic PCNs, at 11,365 – a decrease of 10% from the year before.
