More fleet operators sign up to ReCare recall scheme

They join LeasePlan and Arval plus motor manufacturers Ford and Volvo as early adopters of the scheme, which has been established by Oxford-based online solutions provider, Ebbon-Dacs, for the BVRLA, with the intention of providing a single location for all manufacturers to list safety recall notifications.

Bryan Stringer, operations director at Alphabet (UK) Fleet Management, said: ‘The fleet industry has been looking for a simple standardised way to receive recalls from manufacturers for years. ReCare solves this issue simply and for free. Alphabet is delighted to be a user of ReCare and looks forward to all manufacturers joining the program in the not too distant future.’

Mark Sinclair, chief operating officer at Tusker added: ‘The success of our salary sacrifice car scheme, SS4C, means that we need to notify thousands of individual drivers each time there is a recall.  ReCare will be of significant help and we welcome its introduction into the market.’

The ReCare scheme was announced 12 months ago after the BVRLA appointed Ebbon-Dacs as technology partner to deliver a standardised, free-to-use recall system for its members, who own and operate more than 2.5m vehicles.

Fleet operators including contract hire and leasing, daily rental and fleet management companies which are BVRLA members, or their appointed agents, can use the system to retrieve recall information by inputting their own fleet data for comparison purposes.

Steve Molyneux (Inset), head of commercial at Ebbon-Dacs who is managing the ReCare project, said: ‘It has been great to see Alphabet and Tusker coming on board as it provides further proof that the fleet industry sees significant value in adopting ReCare.

‘The scheme will be live later this month as Ford are currently finalising their own technical processes to enable them to feed recall data directly into ReCare. Once that is completed, we will conduct a final process review with live data from the manufacturers reconciled against live fleet data from the leasing companies. ReCare will then be open for BVRLA members to use shortly thereafter,’ he said.

Last month, vehicle provenance check providers CDL Vehicle Information Services, Experian and HPI confirmed that they would be carrying out free of charge vehicle checks to ensure that VIN-based recall data from manufacturers matched registration number information provided by fleet operators.

Welcoming the new signatories to the scheme, BVRLA chief executive John Lewis said:

‘ReCare has the potential to deliver huge duty of care and road safety benefits to the fleet management sector and to significantly reduce the administrative burden faced by manufacturers trying to notify recalls to thousands of different fleet owners.’

Ebbon-Dacs has been working for the last 12 months to develop a web-based vehicle recall system that shows all vehicles subject to a safety recall or any issue that a manufacturer wishes to make a proactive notification about, and highlights those fleet vehicles to the fleet operator.

During the process, Ebbon-Dacs, supplier of the UK’s most successful e-procurement platform, Leaselink, has met with companies across the automotive industry, including car and truck manufacturers and fleet operators from both the rental and leasing sectors, to ensure all their views were taken into consideration.
