Announced by Digital Radio UK, the move comes as the carmaker looks to feature DAB digital radio as standard across its range – currently 60% of its models feature it across the line-up.

Mercedes' announcement follows the news yesterday that Volkswagen is equipping all its new cars with DAB as standard along with ESC electronic stability control

In the UK, 55% of new car registrations have digital radio as standard, according to CAP/SMMT in April this year; up from less than 5% four years ago.

Mike Hawes, CEO of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said: ‘This announcement shows the continued support from the automotive sector for digital radio. We are pleased that good progress continues to be made in the line-fitting of digital radio by manufacturers.’
