Already named in January as the Best Executive Car, the E-Class has now triumphed over other sector winners to take the overall title, with the Volvo V90 and Jaguar F-Pace finishing in joint second place, while Hyundai’s Ioniq and the Ford Focus RS came joint third.

“Mercedes-Benz has a long history of creating impressive saloon cars and the new E-Class continues this trend and raises the bar in the executive vehicle sector. Stunning inside and out, it takes driver and passengers into the realms of luxury. The level of technology – and the attention to detail – at your fingertips is astounding,” said John Challen, director of the UK Car of the Year Awards.

Other comments from the UK Car of the Year jury included from Fleet World’s Alex Grant who said the Mercedes was “a technological showcase”, adding: “Beautifully built and a pleasure to drive, wherever your journey takes you, the E-Class resets the executive class benchmarks.”

Earlier in the week, E-Class also picked up the Best New Car and Best Executive Car awards at Fleet World Honours 2017.
