Manheim Remarketing invests in logistics capability

The new additions bring the car transporter fleet to a total of 35 vehicles and will be based at Manheim auction centres in Birmingham, Bristol, Bruntingthorpe, Haydock and Northampton.

Manheim Remarketing handles nearly 500,000 vehicles each year and says it is directly responsible for the movement around the country of the majority of those vehicles. The number of vehicle movements has grown steadily over the past three years by 5% and the number of miles travelled over the same period has increased from 18 million to nearly 20 million miles, an increase of just over 10%.

Mike Pilkington, managing director, Manheim Remarketing, said: 'Following a strategic review of our logistics operation we have decided to increase our owned car transporter fleet to ensure that we can provide our buyer and seller customers with cost-effective and reliable collection or delivery services. There has been a national decline in car transporter capacity since the onset of the recession in 2008 and with the trend towards increasing collection mileages and the overall number of vehicle movements; we felt that this substantial investment was essential to continue to provide balance and flexibility in our logistics operation.'
