Manheim opens second auction centre in Germany

By / 13 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The new dedicated two-lane facility, located close to the Czech Republic border, is on a 350,000m2 site and will host a regular programme of three auctions per month.

The centre was converted from an existing building owned by Buchbinder Rent-a-Car, the largest privately owned German vehicle rental operator, using the US-style facing rostrum layout, with buyers standing in between the two lanes.

The first auction featured over 450 cars and light and medium commercial vehicles and attracted over 260 buyers, more than half of whom were logged on via Simulcast, including some who could not attend because of heavy snow. Online sales activity was strong – one buyer from Italy purchased eight vehicles via Simulcast.

Manheim says it views this latest investment as a key piece of the jigsaw in creating a broad range of remarketing and retail support services in this major European car market. The firm also has a majority JV sister company in Germany called Modix, offering a range of showroom and web-based technology solutions to over 4,500 car dealers as well as vehicle manufacturers and newspaper businesses.

David Mercer, managing director, Manheim, Continental Europe, said: 'This new auction centre in Regensburg will help Manheim to meet the expectations of its growing number of customers and provide a good geographic spread. It has been established in direct response to the growing demand in Germany for the expansion of our remarketing services. This innovative partnership with the site owner, Buchbinder Rent-a-Car, is set for an exciting future.'
