Kia has instigated a voluntary recall of 5,020 Kia Niro Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) models due to possible overheating in an electrical relay.

Affected vehicles – built between November 2016 and September 2017 – should be taken to dealerships and relays will be replaced at no cost to customers, with the procedure taking approximately one hour to complete, the firm said in a statement. The fault was identified as part of the company’s on-going research and development programme.

The company stressed that it was not aware of any failures causing fires nor of any injuries, but is undertaking the recall to ensure the issue is corrected.
