JLR deploys usage-based insurance for on-demand rental platform

Jaguar Land Rover has appointed Flock to provide usage-based insurance for its ‘The Out’ on-demand rental fleet service.

Thanks to the adoption of Flock’s usage-based fleet policy, JLR’s The Out on-demand rental service will only pay for insurance when vehicles are on hire

The service was launched by Jaguar Land Rover’s mobility venture capital arm, InMotion, in 2019 and enables customers to hire vehicles and get them delivered to their homes or offices in a couple of clicks.

Thanks to the adoption of Flock’s usage-based fleet policy, The Out service will only pay for insurance when vehicles are on hire. This has enabled the service to embed insurance in its offering, meaning all vehicles arrive with customers fully insured and ready to drive.

JLR’s The Out service is also using Flock’s risk mitigation technology, which provides data from vehicle telematics with a range of other datasets, including decades of accident data, crime reports, and real-time traffic flows, to help improve driver and fleet safety.

Tom Fawcett, managing director of The Out, said: “Flock Motor is miles ahead of the competition. Their team moved quickly to provide us with a policy that aligns our insurance costs with the vehicles we have on hire. Flock’s insights will help us scale whilst continuously optimising for driver safety and profitability.”
