They were followed by Jaguar and Skoda in joint third place, then MINI, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo and Alfa Romeo/Toyota in joint tenth place.

Japanese cars also dominated the model league table, with the Lexus IS in first place followed by the Honda Accord, Lexus RX, Honda CR-V, Toyota Prius and Toyota RAV4. In joint seventh place were the BMW 5 Series, the Mercedes E-Class and the Volvo S40, with the Honda Jazz in tenth place.

This year's awards were judged by 16,840 motorists on the basis of criteria such as mechanical reliability, desirability, running costs and dealer service.
