Set to start deliveries in spring 2015, the aluminium-intensive Jaguar XE is the first model developed from Jaguar Land Rover’s new modular vehicle architecture and brings a dynamic design with a classic rear-drive stance as well as the distinction of being the smallest, lightest, stiffest Jaguar saloon yet.

It also debuts the new Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. The first Ingenium engines are 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesels with a choice of two power and torque outputs: 161bhp/380Nm and 178bhp/430Nm. The 161bhp version makes the XE the most fuel-efficient Jaguar ever, achieving 75mpg and 99g/km CO2 on the European combined cycle.

There’s also the XE S, which shares its supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with the lightweight F-TYPE sports car and is capable of 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds.

The new model, which sits below the XF and XJ model lines, will offer four trims: SE, Prestige, Portfolio, R-Sport and S.

The entry-level to the XE range, the SE model features high-quality cloth seat, gloss black detailing, sat nav, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, DAB digital radio and multi-function softgrain leather steering wheel.

The Prestige trim brings heated front seats featuring Taurus leather upholstery with Phosphor Blue ambient lighting and brushed aluminium detailing.

Billed as the most luxurious XE model, the Portfolio trim includes Meridian audio system, 10-way electric front seats, bi-Xenon headlamps with LED signature DRLs and 18-inch alloy wheels (except on 161bhp engines) along with a wide range of colour options for the premium softgrain Windsor leather and bespoke details for the instrument panel and aluminium trim.

R-Sport brings sporty looks with bi-Xenon headlamps with LED signature DRLs, gloss black window surrounds and two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels (except on 161bhp models) along with a rear spoiler and chrome side power vents. Tyhre’s also R-Sport branding inside.

Finally at the top of the range, the S trim is the most performance-orientated XE model and features a race-inspired interior. The heated, perforated Taurus leather seats; tread plates; and leather sports steering wheel carry the S logo. Outside the front bumper gains enlarged air intakes, side sill extensions, rear spoiler, gloss black rear valance, red brake calipers, bi-Xenon headlamps with LED signature DRLs and 19-inch alloy wheels. Features include a Meridian audio system, keyless entry and power-operated boot lid.

The price walks between the trims are £1,000 from SE to Prestige, £1,550 from Prestige to R-Sport and £650 from R-Sport to Portfolio. The top-of-the-range V6 S is £44,870.
