IAM RoadSmart develops individual one-off courses for at-work drivers

IAM RoadSmart is piloting a range of one-off driver training sessions for business drivers to tackle particular areas of concern on a one-to-one basis.

The new modules have been created as one-off one-to-one sessions and are conducted by IAM RoadSmart’s driving experts in the customer’s own vehicle.

Created in response to customer demand, these shorter courses address six specific driving needs:

  • Driving on motorways
  • Driving on rural roads
  • Driving on urban roads
  • Vehicle management
  • Overtaking
  • Confined space manoeuvring

The courses last between one and two hours, and are conducted by IAM RoadSmart’s driving experts in the customer’s own vehicle.

Sarah Sillars OBE, IAM RoadSmart chief executive officer, said: “Currently, the majority of drivers do not undertake any further training after they pass their driving test. But like any skill, driving should be regularly developed. What we have done is to make post-test, on-road learning as easy and accessible as possible by addressing the areas fleet controllers and their drivers tell us they would like help with.

“We know that business have little spare time in a fast-paced commercial environment and what we have come up with offers great flexibility and a chance to be a safer, more confident driver in a way that fits into operational schedules and supports.”
