HMRC announces latest advisory fuel rates

HMRC has announced new advisory fuel rates, effective from 1 June 2021 and introducing a number of changes.

For petrols, all three rates go up by a penny while for diesels, the rate for engines over 2000cc goes up 1p to 13ppm

For petrols, all three rates go up by a penny; reaching 11, 13 and 19ppm respectively.

For diesels, the rate for engines over 2000cc goes up 1p to 13ppm.

For LPG-fuelled vehicles, the rates for engines of 1400cc or less and 1401cc to 2000cc go up by 1ppm while the rate for engines over 2000cc goes up by 2ppm.

All other rates stay the same.

The electric vehicle rate remains at 4ppm and, as before, hybrid cars are to be treated either as petrol or diesel vehicles.

The new tables are as follows (old rates in brackets):

1400cc or less 11 pence (10p) 8 pence (7p)
1401cc to 2000cc 13 pence (12p) 9 pence (8p)
Over 2000cc 19 pence (18p) 14 pence (12p)
Engine size Diesel – amount per mile
1600cc or less 9 pence (9p)
1601cc to 2000cc 11 pence (11p)
Over 2000cc 13 pence (12p)

The previous rates can be used for up to one month from the date the new rates apply.
