Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions develops "CarFlex" salary sacrifice scheme for KPMG

By / 12 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

In developing, CarFlex Hitachi worked closely with KPMG’s own Car Consulting team to combine KPMG’s existing company car scheme (which was open to employees of manager grade and above via a company car allowance) with a new salary sacrifice scheme open to all KPMG employees – opening up company car provision at KPMG to an additional 6500 members of staff.

Under the new scheme, certain employees (managers and above) are entitled to a core benefit car allowance payment under which they have the choice of almost any 4-seater, fully maintained, passenger vehicle subject to monetary limits (although vehicles with a CO2 emission rating of 160g/km or more will include an additional charge to encourage the choice of greener vehicles).  CarFlex combines this with a new all-employee scheme which offers a wide selection of fully maintained vehicles with an upper CO2 limit of 140g/km.

Managers qualifying for the previously existing core benefit car scheme are also eligible to apply for a second car under this scheme. As part of KPMG’s wider commitment to reducing their carbon footprint, all employees are encouraged to opt for the most fuel-efficient vehicles and low-carbon options are being added to the fleet under a programme of continuous review.

Kathryn Batchelor, benefits manager at KPMG, commented:  ‘We wanted to replace our legacy company car scheme which was only available to managers and operated through a car allowance paid on top of salary.  In doing so we decided to review our salary sacrifice offering to provide a flexible benefit that is open to all employees – not just managers that is aligned to our Reward strategy, supports our environment goals and contributes to our Employer of choice agenda.

‘Launched in the middle of August, the new CarFlex scheme has now been rolled out across our entire UK business, opening up company car provision via salary sacrifice to 11,000 people eligible within the company and more than 5,000 people have now signed up to discover more information,’ she added.

Phil Peace (Inset), director of sales at Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions, said: ‘We have worked with KPMG for over 20 years now and they are a valued customer. We are pleased to continue our relationship by providing this benefit offering for its employees. The scheme was built, tested and implemented by our highly skilled team and is the first of its kind for Hitachi Capital. We are delighted with the phenomenal interest so far.’
