The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is aimed at establishing a partnership that will cover areas including the deployment in the Gaziantep municipality of a charging network for electric vehicles, which will be launched in 2011 and the lease of 50 electric vehicles for the fleet of the municipality’s services of Gaziantep.

The parties have decided to launch preliminary work with a view to encouraging the promotion of electric vehicles and are setting up a working group to look at areas including multiplying the number of projects that could favour the use of electric vehicles in Gaziantep and developing special projects for fleets, public spaces and cities.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance has already signed two MOUs, one with Istanbul Enerji, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.

Renault says it has a very strong position in Turkey in terms of both production and sales. In november 2009, Renault announced it would be producing Fluence ZE, one of its four electric vehicles, at the Bursa plant. Fluence ZE will be the first mass-produced electric vehicle in Turkey.
