Replacing the outgoing car launched in 2007, the new Mondeo will be available in a choice of three bodystyles in the UK, including new EcoBoost petrol engines, a European-built hybrid and diesels offering CO2 emissions as low as 94g/km.

The range includes the four familiar Style, Zetec, Titanium and Titanium X versions, and the entry point is the 113bhp 1.6-litre TDCi ECOnetic diesel, which returns 78.5mpg and is priced at £20,795. Style versions can also be equipped with the 148bhp 2.0-litre TDCi engine, which returns 68.9mpg and emits 107g/km CO2.

CO2 emissions for the estate start at 99g/km (74.3mpg) for the 1.6 TDCi, or 109g/km (67.3mpg) for the 2.0 TDCi.

From Zetec upwards, the range includes 1.5 and 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrols with 158bhp and 237bhp respectively, and offering up to 48.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 134g/km. The petrol-electric hybrid is the only four-door saloon in the range, priced at £24,995 and offering 67.3mpg fuel economy and 99g/km CO2 emissions.

New technology includes Ford’s SYNC2 voice control package, an advanced park assist system, adaptive full-LED headlamps and an industry-first inflatable rear seatbelt. Four-wheel drive and a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will join the range next year.
