Trimble MRM says it's carried out a survey that found 60% of fleet managers believe the best single way to reduce cost and under-performance is to reduce the number of unnecessary miles being driven.

Andrew Yeoman, managing director of Trimble MRM Europe, said: 'This may sound like an obvious use of technology but our survey revealed that many managers think the equipment they are using is not fit for purpose.

'Companies should be taking every step necessary to ensure economic stability and fleet managers have a great opportunity to make the most of the latest telematics equipment available to allow them to do this.'

Trimble also found that 85% of the 300 fleet managers polled believe using fuel more economically is their biggest challenge.

The survey also revealed more than half the managers questioned regard driver health and safety as an increasingly important challenge, with vehicle tracking technology becoming central to their management of this issue.

'Our technology can help organizations revolutionise the way their fleet employees drive, promoting economic, eco-friendly driving, while also safeguarding driver safety,' said Mr Yeoman.
