Fleet World Fleet: Volvo V60 D3 R-Design

The Volvo V60 gets put through its paces on a family holiday, writes Martyn Collins.

All you need for a week’s family holiday – and then some

Four months into its time on the Fleet World long-term fleet, and my Volvo V60 has faced its toughest test yet in the form of a family holiday.

Despite its 529-litre boot being somewhat smaller than the 560 litres of the last estate I ran – the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer – I’m pleased to report that all my family and I needed for a week away still fitted, even if I couldn’t see out of the back window! Thankfully, with Volvo’s Surround View Monitor optionally fitted, this wasn’t an issue.

The trip from home was pleasingly uneventful too, with me making the most of the adaptive cruise control on a busy pre-Easter schlep up the A1. It is a very simple system to use too, with all the controls on the sports three-spoke steering wheel.

With almost 3,500 miles on the clock, the V60 feels properly run in now, and as much as I love its easy- going character, extra performance and a more responsive auto box would be welcome and I reckon work better with its sportier R-Design trim.
