Fleet World Fleet: Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 V6 TDI 231 4Motion SEL

By / 4 years ago / Road Tests / No Comments

The Touareg is going down smoothly on the Fleet World fleet.

The rear load level adjust can drop the rear of the car to make getting heavy items into the boot easier

Our Touareg is fitted with the optional air suspension – a £2,370 extra which allows you to adjust the ride and ride height depending on your circumstances, from fast motorway driving through to slow off-road work.

Left to its own devices in auto mode it works fabulously, giving the Touareg an incredibly comfortable ride – not something you could ever say about the previous-generation model.

As part of the option package, the car is also fitted with rear axle steering, which turns the rear wheels in the opposite direction to the fronts at speeds below 22mph to boost manoeuvrability. Again, it works really well, making tight city streets and parking so much easier. I also like the rear load level adjust (part of the same option package), which can drop the rear of the car to make getting heavy items into the boot easier. This is one of those options that I would normally gloss over on the spec sheet given its price, but having experienced it I can say it’s definitely worthwhile.

Elsewhere, I’m getting an occasional warning message telling me that my door is open – and a robust slam doesn’t always get the fault to disappear. I’m thinking there may be a faulty door sensor so will be booking the car in for attention.
