Fleet World Fleet: Volkswagen Arteon R-Line 2.0 TSI 190 DSG

Volkswagen has big plans to raise the profile of its Arteon saloon-cum-coupe model, with a hot R version and a shooting brake-style estate due next year.

Volkswagen Arteon R-Line

Quite why the Arteon currently sits under the radar is puzzling to me – it’s a stylish take on Volkswagen’s proven upper-medium Passat challenger, albeit with more dramatic and aggressive styling.

We’re running the best-selling model – a 2.0 TSI 190 petrol combined with the DSG automatic gearbox and in range-topping R-Line trim. It wants for very little in standard guise – the only options on our test model are metallic
paint at £620, upgraded area-view parking camera (£800), type pressure monitoring at £140, the £920 keyless entry with ‘easy open’ system (allowing you to wave your foot under the bumper to open the boot), panoramic sunroof (£960) and a heated climate windscreen at £320.

So far the heated screen has proven a bonus on cold mornings, while the panoramic roof really brightens up the otherwise dark cabin. The only thing we probably would like is 4Motion four-wheel drive to make quick exits from junctions less of a tyre-scrabbling affair.

P11d (BiK): £35,740 (32%) MPG/CO2: 36.1mpg (WLTP) /144g/km (NEDC Correlated) Test MPG: 29.3mpg
