Dan Gilkes looks into a service light on our CX-5.

The oil change light on our CX-5 came on with less than 8,000 miles on the clock

At six months old and with less than 8,000 miles on the clock, I was a little surprised to see the service required in 500 miles light come up on the dash of our CX-5. Given that the brochure promises a visit to the dealer every 12 months/12,000 miles, it seemed a little early.

However, Mazda deemed it acceptable, as the system is apparently condition based. As most of my journeys are long-distance cruising, that still felt a little early. Local dealer Donalds Mazda was unable to get the car in for a few weeks, so it eventually had its first oil change at 8,600 miles, for £201.65.
